Gwenyth Jackaway,  Ph.D.

I am a mission driven educator,  dedicated to helping students to thrive in the digital age.

Trained as a media historian, I earned a B.A. in history from Columbia University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. For over 25 years I served as a member of the Fordham University Faculty, in the Department of Communication and Media Studies,  where I taught courses about the role of the media in society.

My research and teaching have long focused on the ways in which technological innovation in communication impacts the human experience.  While new media bring many benefits,  they also bring new challenges. These days,  I'm particularly interested in the impact of digital media on our ability to be present and actually pay attention to the world around us.  This is especially important for young learners,  whose brains are still developing.

After leaving the college classroom to make a bigger difference, I earned certifications as a Mindfulness Meditation Instructor through Tibet House in NYC,

and as a Digital Wellness Educator through the Digital Wellness Institute.

Now, bridging theory and practice, I offer workshops on  Digital Wellness and Mindfulness,  to help young people and those who support them make healthy choices about technology use. I also work with secondary school students individually to support them on the various stages of their academic journey.
